Description
Delo bylo na Dnepre… [This Happened at Dnieper…], a large-sized TASS Windows poster (no. 953) by Mikhail Cheremnykh (1890–1962, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation), Moscow, 1944. 185 x 87 cm.
This poster celebrates the German failure to prevent advancing Soviet armies from crossing the Dnieper and Dniester rivers.
Students of Soviet poster art history may find this poster particularly appealing because Cheremnykh was the leading artist of the Civil War period ROSTA Windows operation. The decision to start the TASS Windows series was largely inspired by the popularity of the ROSTA Windows posters back in 1920-1921.
