This rare Symphonion was manufactured by the musical instrument manufactory of the Brothers Lochmann, whose founder Paul Lochmann invented the perforated plates in 1886. To ‘preserve’ music in a technical way and to be able to recall it at any time, has been a dream of music lovers for centuries. Such a Symphonion disk music box was a milestone in the history. The present music box with 13 disks is immediately ready for use and features a beautiful sound. The 13 perforated plates play pieces by Wagner, Weber and others.

The Symphonion is accompanied by a matching mahogany veneered table with turned legs and H-brace. The perforated plates are fitted in a walnut veneered case with side handles and hinged lid, decorated with a central motif of a plastic lyre. The numbers of the plates are 3038, 3043, 3088, 3019, 3047, 3114, 3124, 3125, 3141, 3143, 3155, 3184, 3185 and 3240.

The Symphonion is in overall very good condition, showing minor wear consistent with age. The glass of the picture inside of the lid has a crack. The wooden case is also a bit cracked, and the table is somewhat scratched in part. The Symphonion measures 53 x 45 x 25 cm, and the plate diameter is 30 cm. The table is 75 x 60 x 48 cm in size, and the wooden case measures 17 x 39 x 39 cm.
