Description
Unusual Glazed Redware Jar with Folky Splotched Decoration, attributed to Emmanuel Suter, Rockingham County, VA, late 19th century, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, tapered neck, and semi-rounded rim the inner flange to hold a lid. Circumference of jar covered in a rust-colored, lead-and-manganese glaze with visually-appealing lighter splotches that run along the surface of the jar. Excellent glaze pattern. Provenance: Recently found in Virginia. Very nice overall condition. Minor base wear. Two minor rim chips. Typical minor wear on inner rim where a lid would rest. Small chip to molding at base of rim. H 9 3/8".
