Very Rare Rockingham-Glazed Anna Pottery Pig Bottle with Incised Railroad Map, Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, circa 1880, molded in the form of a reclining pig with incised snout and hooves, anatomically-correct underside, and hole at rear. Remainder of pig incised with a railroad map of the Midwestern U.S., with landmarks including "Anna Pottery" and "Chicago the corn crib". Surface covered in a visually-appealing streaked reddish-brown glaze over a yellowish clay body. Few Anna Pottery pigs with Rockingham glaze are known. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, recently discovered in Pennsylvania. Loss to back edge of one rear leg. Chip to bottom of edge of opposite rear leg, possibly in-the-firing. Losses to ears. Chipping to base of tail. A small chip and light wear to opening at rear. Some surface wear. Some incised landmarks are partially-obscured by the Rockingham glaze. L 7 1/4".
