RARE AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY WAR DOCUMENT, SIGNED BY HOPKINSON - Sixty Dollar Bond Numb. 483, dated 30 September, 1779, part of the 'French Loan' arranged by Ben Franklin as Commissioner in Paris, issued by the Continental Congress, engraved and printed by Paul Revere, signed by Francis Hopkinson as Treasurer (Signer of the Declaration of Independence), countersigned by Nathaniel Appleton as Commissioner of the Loan Office in the State of Massachusetts Bay. Drawn on the order of eminent Bostonian Edward Tuckerman, inscribed verso by his Grandson in 1834 as having been found in Grandfather's strongbox upon his death in 1818 (never redeemed). His great-grandson was the Rev. Joseph Tuckerman of Boston, the first American 'social worker'. 3 3/4" x 8 3/8", on laid paper with 'United States 2' watermark. Loss to left edge, some spotting, toning on right. Includes 1923 letter from dealer C.E. Hudson.
