Description
FIRST EDITION OF BUGATI'S ADDITION TO THE UNIVERSAL HISTORY OF THE WORLD, INCLUDING A PART REGARDING MILAN

Bugati, Gaspare. M. D. LXXXVII.).

4to (200x145 mm); contemporary limp vellum, with handwritten title at flat spine and at bottom edge (some little spots at covers, traces of cut laces); pp. 194 (but 196), (4), (1, b.); error in numbering: pp. 95-96 repeated; text in Italian, printed in italics; xylographic woodcut at title-page; xylographic head-letters; Author's dedicace to the marquis of Cassine, Cesare Cottica of Alessandria (Italy), dated Milan on 1 July, 1587.

First edition of this work of great value and historical interest, not only for Milan (Italy), published as an addendum to the Historia Universale, previously published by Giolito in 1571.

Gaspare Bugati (16th century) was an Italian historian and theologian from Milan.

Provenance: Contemporary handwritten inscription on top margin of the recto of the first fly-leaf: Adì 18 giugno Alessandro Magno ruppe l'esercito di Dario re di Persia. Adì 10 giugno 1575 fu la ruina del Tempio di san Laurentio in Milano (Today, 18 June [1575] Alexander the Great broke the army of Darius king of Persia. Today, 10 giugno 1575, the temple of St. Lorenzo in Milan collapsed). However, this is a double error: the first event, likely related to the Battle of the Granicus River, happened in May 334 BCE, and in particular the second event happened on the 5th of June, 1573, as it is moreover reported in this very text, at pag. 122, among the events happened in Milan on the year 1573.
