Hannibal Hamlin Handwritten Letter Abraham Lincoln’s Vice President - “I try never to forget a true friend.”
HANNIBAL HAMLIN (1809-1891). 15th Vice President of the United States, serving under President Abraham Lincoln during the American Civil War, the First Vice President from the Republican Party. Prior to his election in 1860, Hamlin served in the United States Senate, the House of Representatives, and as the 26th Governor of Maine.
November 24, 1881-Dated Post Civil War, Autograph Letter Signed, “H. Hamlin,” affixed at middle, usual vertical folds, to Governor H. Bailey, Choice Very Fine. This clean and well written 2 page example with minor fold creases, and is in overall excellent condition, expressing warmth to an old political colleague, reading, in part: “I try never to forget a true friend.” Interestingly, Bailey served as a Delegate to the Democratic Convention from Kentucky in 1860! Very scarce.
