The maternity marionette is a work of the Nigerian Eket people from post 1940. The fine figure is carved of wood and shows pigments in red, green and white. The figure is surmounting a wicker base. The arms are raised over the head in a supplicant gesture calling for rain. It is a unique Eket statuary with pronounced dominating heart-shaped forehead, large nose and full lips and square scarification at the temples.
The Eket maternity marionette is in good condition. It is 58 cm in height. (tm)
