The present pre-Columbian vessel was made by a representative of the Chimu culture, active circa 1500 AD. The surface of the pottery is nicely burnished and reveals a black coloration. The corpus of the vessel is decorated with an important chieftain figure fitted with formal regalia. It holds a cup in front of the torso.
The vessel has been broken and re-glued and restored The corpus of the vessel measures c. 16 cm in diameter. (cbo)
