Expressively modeled fertility figure in attractive reddish brown color
This beautiful female fertility figure of hand modeled and polished clay was made by the Mexican Colima Culture. The hollow sculpture is painted in brown and red and represents a naked female body sitting on her buttocks. She carries a small hollow bowl on her left shoulder. The oval, elongated head is formed in a very detailed manner and her eyes as well as the mouth are modeled in a coffee bean-shape. Her head is surrounded by a curved band that emphasizes her mask-like face. Interesting details are the four bracelets which decorate her long, slender arms. Her round buttocks and small breasts have been pointed out to symbolize the idea of fertility.
The figure is in good condition and shows only some minor material losses. Both legs were broken and have been professionally restored. The dimensions are 44 cm (height) and the widest point measures approximately 19 cm. (tfa)
