These ten photographs by Bert Stern show the world star Marilyn Monroe during the famous ‘Last Sitting’ in June 1962. Six weeks before her death, the photographer and actress met for a Vogue shooting in Bungalow no. 264 of the Bel Air Hotel in Los Angeles. The incomparable Marilyn Monroe is lolling naked on a bed, giving the viewer a challenging look.



The ten photographs are each signed by Bert Stern lower right and numbered lower left ‘11/250’. The photographs are mounted reversible under mat on the upper edge with adhesive stripes. The photographs are besides light-staining due to the mats in good condition. The depictions measure each 48 x 48 cm, the sheets 60.8 x 50.7 cm and the total dimensions, including the frames, are each 72.3 x 67.5 cm.



Bert Stern (1923-2013)

Bert Stern is especially known for his photographs of Marilyn Monroe for Vogue magazine. Since 1949 he worked as the art director at the fashion magazine Mayfair, which fostered his interest in photography. He made his fist pictures as a soldier in the Korean War and 1953. Later a campaign for Smirnoff vodka followed. One of his pictures made the cover of Vogue magazine in 1960, allowing him to work with numerous celebrities from the film industry such as Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn and Brigitte Bardot on photo shoots. In 1962 he worked on a three-day shoot with Marilyn Monroe, known today as ‘the last sitting’ and making Bert Stern worldwide famous. (tm)
