Dervishes use such struts to rest their chin during long meditation sessions

This Indo-Persian Dervish strut from the 17th/18th century is crafted of steel and elaborately adorned with filigree silver damascening. The strut ends on both sides with ram protomes with inset fluorites as eyes. Handle and shaft are connected by a screw fixing. Islamic mystics used staffs like this to rest their heads or arms during long praying sessions. The piece at hand does not show traces of wear, which leads to the assumption that it has as presumably an offering never been used and kept like this in an almost mint condition.

The dervish staff is in very good condition with minimal traces of age. The dimensions are 54.5 x 19.5 cm (height x width). (tm)
