Item Details

Description

Mahogany (Standard) Glaze lidded potpourri jar with butterfly handles and having a dragon painted on it, the work of Kataro Shirayamadani in 1888. Marks include the Rookwood logo, which indicates the date, shape 400, an impressed R for Red clay and the artist’s incised initials. The decoration carries over onto the lid which is unmarked. There is fine overall crazing. Height is 6 inches. Great early example of Shiri’s work.
