Description
Rookwood bowl with a rendition of an Uncle Remus story, the work of Edward P. Cranch in 1889. The decoration shows Brer Bear with a line in his mouth trying to drag Brer Tarrypin out of the water and has the notation “Br Bar tries his strength with Br Tarrypin”. The bottom is impressed with the Rookwood logo, which indicates the date, shape 87, an impressed G for Ginger clay, and incised with the date, Mr. Cranch’s initials and “Uncle Remus plantation tales”. There is a single, small open glaze bubble and a couple of tiny scratches on the interior of the bowl. Size is 1 inch high and 6 1/2 inches in diameter.
