Isamu Kenmochi Archive. Isamu was one of the most important modern industrial designers from post war Japan. He was a member of the Japanese Industrial ARts Institute. In 1952 he made a study tour of the USA and reported back to the influential journal Kogei Ngusa (Industrial Art News). He was a founding member of the Japan Industrial Designers Association. He attend the Aspen International Design Conference in 1953. Some of his chair designs are in the MOMA design collection. These letters to Richard Gump of Gump's store in San Francisco document their relationship in which Gump facilitated his visit to Aspen and supported his work from 1952-1969. Also included is an interesting letter from a Danish designer warning Gump of anti-Japanese feelings in Scandinavia. c. 1950's
