Description
BRITISH ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION 1910-1913: 1913 (Jan.18) Registered B.A.E. cover to Cardiff bearing VICTORIA LAND 1d strip of 3 tied by the "BRIT.ANTARCTIC EXPD" datestamp, with a further strike on the blank type registration label (No.70). This was the date stamp used on the "Terra Nova" on the day it arrived at Cape Evans and learnt of the death of Captain Scott and his companions. Backstamped at LYTTLETON (12 FE), T.P.O.WANGANUI-WELLINGTON (13 FE) & AUCKLAND (14 FE). Endorsed "Private" at upper left. A rare commercial registered cover; of 100 registered items sent by members of the Expedition, only a handful are known to have survived.
