Title: The British Expedition to the Crimea
Author: William Howard Russell - Sir William Howard Russell CVO was an Irish reporter with The Times, and is considered to have been one of the first modern war correspondents. He spent 22 months covering the Crimean War, including the Siege of Sevastopol and the Charge of the Light Brigade. Russell later covered events during the Indian Rebellion of 1857, the American Civil War, the Austro-Prussian War, and the Franco-Prussian War.

Book Details: This antique volume is bound in red cloth with gilt spine lettering and black decoration to the front board. This title includes eight folding maps/plans, some of which include: Chart of Kherson Bay and the Dneiper & Boug Rivers; Plan of the Defenses of Sebastopol with the Lines of Attack of the Allied Armies; The Country Around Sebastopol; Plan of the Battle of the Tchernaya August 16th 1855.

From the Note preceding the Contents: "In addition to the despatches relating to the landing in the Crimea, the battles of the Alma, Balaklava, Inkerman, and the Tehernaya, the assaults on the place, &c., there will be found in the present edition the text of the most important clauses of the Treaty of Paris in 1856, the correspondence between Prince Gortschakoff and Lord Granville on the denunciation of the Treaty in 1870, &c."

Condition / Notes: This antique volume displays some moderate indications of age and wear, including shelfwear and soiling to the boards. The spine is torn, with repairs to the spine and rear board made using tape.There are moisture markings to the boards. The binding and text block are sound. Text is clear and legible. The folding maps show some tears to creases and a few have been repaired with tape. Writing by previous owners is appears on the front endpapers.
