Description
This an authentic 1935 U.S. Senate Chamber card signed by Henrik Shipstead.

May 16 1935 badge signed by Senator Shipstead to permit his guest, Thomas E Sands Jr., to enter the Senate chambers.

Henrik "Henry" Shipstead (1881-1960) represented Minnesota in the US Senate from 1923 to 1947, elected three times on the Democratic Farmer Labor ticket but in his last term as a Republican. He was primary Senate sponsor of the bill creating the US Commission of Fine Arts. Not a classic "isolationist," because he favored liberal trade policies, Shipstead consistently voted against foreign political and military entanglements. He opposed the League of Nations, and also the United Nations. Although he voted for the declaration of war after Pearl Harbor, he continued to oppose the draft even in wartime. His non-interventionist policies no longer popular, Shipstead lost his bid for a fifth term in the Republican primary.

SIZE: Approx. 4" x 2 3/4".
