Description
Bronze. Ayutthya, approx. 17th cent.
An especially beautiful and stylistically typical head with a tall ovoid form, almost entirely preserved. Buddha is depicted as a princely young man, which corresponds to his heritage in the royal house Shakyamuni. Fine narrow nose, neatly curved lips placed somewhat high, eyes looking down, and continuous eyebrows. Buddha wears a jagged diadem, above the stepped ushnisha is a stylized lotus bud (in combination, resulting in a form similar to a stupa). The curved ears with jewelry attached are well-preserved. Very good green patina, burst on the backside, mounted on a stepped base.
HEAD HEIGHT 17 CM, WITH MOUNTING 23,6 CM
From a German private collection
