(of 467, lacking blank E9', in fact 458, but with the inclusion of extra PP1 f. changes), 30 lines and head-line, Greek and Roman type, handsome woodcut decorative initials and head-pieces, f.100 verso with with printed slip pasted in at foot with an omitted line of text, extensive early ink Greek marginalia and inter-linear notes , first f. soiled and little chipped at fore-edge, ff.252-259 with skilfully repaired tears to upper inner corner (mostly marginal and with no loss of text), water-staining to upper gutters, f.152 small section of lower corners torn away (not affecting text), some spotting and finger-marking, lightly browned, later vellum-backed boards, some splitting to spine, corners little worn, rubbed, [BMC V, 555-556; Hain 1657; Goff A-959; Renouard 11:2; PMM 38], folio, [Venice], [Aldus Manutius], [29th] January, 1497]. Editio princeps of Aristotle . 'The first major Greek prose text to be reintroduced in the original to the western world by the intervention of the printing press.' (PMM). The volumes were published individually between 1495 and 1498. Provenance: A sixteenth-century manuscript note on the first page ascribes the annotations to Ottaviano Ferrari (1518-1586), Professor of Philosophy at Milan.
