A VERY RARE EDITION OF THIS FAMOUS WORK OF MONASTIC LIFE AND GASTRONOMY BY CASSIANUS, IN A CONTEMPORARY DARK BROWN MOROCCO
Cassianus, Johannes. De institutis coenobiorum [...]. Lyon: Iacobum Myt, [1525].
8vo (the leaf 137 x 95 mm), contemporary dark brown morocco with blind impressions on covers, with a cross within a roll-border with blind corner tools, the spine restored in the 19th’s cent., dark-colored edges, light water-stain at upper corner of first leaves, still a genuine copy in good condition inside. Ff. [340].
A very rare edition of this famous work of monastic life and gastronomy, first published in Basel in 1485.
In the chap. 18, book 4, there is an interesting reference to the food (Quod illicitum sit extra mensam comunem cuique cibi potusve gustare) which explains which kind of foods the monks were allowed to eat by the rule.
