This color linoleum cut is typical of Lill Tschudi's oeuvre. A masterpiece of 6 colors registered to perfection on thin Japan paper, the range of movement extends from the upper right corner across the image to the front left. The viewer may feel as if they at the circus, abstractly making out the ring with dabs and streaks of light illuminating the space.
This particular linoleum cut is covered with annotations in pencil in the margins adding a unique aspect to this small editioned print. Numbered 42/50 and measuring 10 1/2 x 11 1/4 inches this piece is signed and is in overall good condition.
Lill Tschudi (SWISS, 1911-2004)
Lill Tschudi was born in Schwanden, Switzerland in 1911. She studied in London at the Grosvenor School of Modern Art before moving to Paris where she studied under Fernand Léger, amongst others. In 1935 she returned to Switzerland. Her prints are part of many prominent collections such as the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
