Max Ernst created the color photo lithograph, “L’Oiseau Caramel,” in 1969. Though in French the word ‘L’Oiseau’ translates to ‘bird,’ this is not evident from what Ernst has created. Characteristic of his Dada and Surrealist style, Ernst has created a work that reflects a symbol for something rather than simply drawing an icon of a bird. This print is part of a larger portfolio consisting of a booklet "L'Oiseau Caramel" written in French by Robert Lebel and two other lithographs.
The work, which is in overall good condition, is signed in pencil on the lower right. It is numbered 118/150 in pencil on the lower left. The dimensions of the piece are 13 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches (34 1/4 x 24 1/4 cm).
