"Les Caprices de Goya" is Salvador Dali's reworking of Francisco Goya's "Los Caprichos" series, published more than 200 years earlier. Goya's "Los Caprichos" criticized Spanish social conventions of the time. The series of 80 aquatint etchings was published in 1799, but was blocked from sale shortly afterwards. Goya's critique of the Catholic Church nearly had him called before the Spanish Inquisition. Dali felt a strong affinity with Goya, as a fellow iconoclast. He made his own Surrealist additions to the prints. .

This group of four prints from “Les Caprices de Goya” series are each hand-signed by Dali in pencil on the lower left, with the signatures of both Dali and Goya in the prints. They are numbered 129/200, and measure 9 x 6 ½ inches. Each is framed and matted, accompanied by a letter of authentication from Bruce Hochman, OS, San Juan, CA. Catalogue Raisonne: Michler/Löpsinger 852, 865, 889, 890.
