Description
Mexican Maskmaker, [20th Century]. "Mexican Mask [Traditional - 0105]. Fariseo Baltazar Mask. From the Semana Santa Dance, El Pueblito, State of Queretaro [Mexico]". Hand-painted, hand-carved polychromed natural wood sculpture with cloth tongue, goat horns, and natural fibers. 1980s. A "danced" mask. Not made for the tourist trade or for sale, but created by the indigenous person to be used only in a ceremonial dance. Overall condition good. Provenance: From a highly important private collection, consisting of over 2,000 masks, Mexico City. Approx. 18 9/16in high, 20 1/2in wide, 6 1/8in deep (470mm x 520mm x 157mm). MO Inv #MA0094.
