Description
Peter Koster (1891 - 1978) was a Dutch artist who emigrated to the United States. He became an active participant in the Rockport Massachusetts artist art colony. He had his own gallery, Old Harbor Gallery on Pleasant Street and produced many fine marine paintings. This one is from around 1950 and is painted in the fluid, buttery manner which Cape Ann painters have made famous. The subject combined three icons of the coast: The Twin Lights of Thatcher Island, a fishing boat being followed by gulls, and surf on the rocky shore. It is a gem of plein air painting. The oil painting is no a 6"x8" canvas board, and it is in its original frame, with the artist's gallery label on the back. It is being sold as-found, in good condition, with some patina on the off-white carved wood frame. Frame size is approx. 8"x10" Item ID: 4052AUT Fixed Price Shipping & Insurance on this item =$32.00
