Pre-Columbian, Peru, ca. 500-1000 CE. Carved wooden anthropomorphic figure created by the Wari/Huari culture. Characteristic gesture of clasped hands across abdominal area and simple yet expressive facial features. Wonderful emphasis on pure geometry of form. 8.25"W (20.96 W cm)
Provenance: Ex-private collection of William Dale, a career diplomat stationed in Turkey in the early 1960's, who acquired a vast collection of Greek, Roman and Near-Eastern treasures during his tenure.
