Description

First half 19th century, 68 x 134 cm, West China

The field and border of this Ningxia saddle cover are golden yellow, a colour preferred in ancient China. Trapezoid in shape, the cover was placed under the saddle. It consists of two halves woven separately and joined at the centre. The fastening straps were pulled through the four leather-trimmed openings. The red fabric edging is a later addition. Published in an exhibition catalogue by the Bernheimer art gallery, Munich. - Good condition.
