American (Vermont), 19th century. An inkwell in the form of a phrenological head with incised diagram, on cobalt-decorated well and rectangular base. Base impressed By F. Bridges, / Phrenologist; ht. 5.75 in.
Note: Frederick Bridges was an English phrenologist whose design and name were licensed to Bennington Pottery.
