Romantic marshland at dusk; the auction record for a landscape painting by the artist is set at approx. €14,000

This painting is a work by the Spanish artist Enrique Serra y Auque. In addition to oriental scenes and nostalgic genre scenes, the latter created a series of paintings in late Romantic tradition, in which he captured the landscape of the Pontine Marshes. Here he depicted a few abandoned barges by a jetty with the ivy-covered stone fragments of an ancient edifice. In the background stretches a reed landscape before a fiery red sky. The setting sun bathes the scene in a bright, orange-red light, creating an atmospheric sight.

The painting is signed and inscribed lower right ‘ENRIQUE SERRA / ROMA’. It is in good condition. The frame shows some wear. The edges are minimally rubbed, inspection under UV-light reveals a retouching to the sky. The framed work measures 58 x 91.5 cm, the stretcher frame 44.5 x 78.5 cm.
