Characteristic works of the Italian artist in the form of a collage from the 1980s, collages on paper fetch up to €22,000 at international auctions

In the beginning of 1950s Italian artist Mimmo Rotella discovered a new medium in which he began to express himself artistically by tearing off old advertising or movie posters from its originally attached, public place to develop them as Décollage to a new aesthetic form. Finally, in the 1980s he began to work with picks from magazines, which he overpainted with characters or phrases. Thereby Rotella stands in the tradition of the Cubists such as Kurt Schwitters and artists like the US American Robert Rauschenberg also practiced this technique in a somewhat modified form.

The work is signed lower left ‘Rotella’ and is in very good condition. The sheet is mounted loose in four photo corners. The sheet size 40.3 x 33.1 cm, the framed dimensions are 69 x 53.5 cm.
