The present watercolor by Klaus Fußmann (b. 1938) from 1992 is typical of the artist’s oeuvre in which Fußmann deals with traditional themes: still lifes, flowers, portraits and landscapes. He creates numerous variations on the same subject in his characteristic broad brushwork. The German painter is known for his paintings of local flowers, whereby he is not concerned with a lifelike representation, but the interplay of colors and forms.

The sheet is signed and dated with ‘Fu 92’ lower right. It is mounted to the corners and matted in a silvered wooden frame. The condition of the sheet is very good, showing only the lightest crease marks to the corners. The frame is also in very good condition. The sheet dimensions are 23.2 x 31.4 cm, and the frame is 45.5 x 53.5 cm in size.

Klaus Fußmann (b. 1938)

Klaus Fußmann was born in Velbert near Düsseldorf in 1938. From 1962 to 1966, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin, where he worked as a professor between 1974 and 2005. Fußmann received several awards and exhibited his works in the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin, the Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt, in the Kunsthalle Emden and the Kunsthalle Bremen as well as in numerous exhibitions abroad. The Museum am Ostwall in Dortmund dedicated a major retrospective to the artist in 2003. In 2005, Fußmann designed a monumental ceiling fresco for the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg. Today, Klaus Fußmann lives and works in Gelting and Berlin.
