The present painting by Jan Voss (born 1936) is a typical abstract composition in bright colors. The use of different media – here oil paint and collage - is characteristic of Voss’s artistic oeuvre. Different shapes and colors overlap and blend into each other. It is the ‘order’ of the constantly moving chaos, which fascinates the artist and which constitute one of the main subjects in his works of art.
The painting is signed and dated with ‘Voss 88’ to the lower margin. It is in very good condition, showing only minor wear affecting the frame. The size of the painting is 200 x 135 cm, and the frame measures 202 x 137 cm.
Jan Voss (born 1936)
In the 1950s, Jan Voss studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Since 1960, he has been living in Paris. He has taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg and at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Voss uses to work in different techniques. In the beginning, he focused on two-dimensional works. Later, in the 1980s, he added three-dimensional works, which he wrinkled, folded, shredded and sawed. Jan Voss has exhibited his work on an international level, including the 4th documenta in Kassel.
