Collection of functional objects, partly with hammered finish, designed by Bauhaus student and designer Karl Raichle
This Lot includes a collection of functional objects designed by Bauhaus student Karl Raichle in the 1930s. After his studies at the Bauhaus is Dessau Raichle focused in his work on producing artistic yet functional objects made from pewter, brass and copper. In 1933 he opened his own manufactory ‘Meersburger Zinnschmiede’ in which he employed twelve co-workers. The items presented here derive from that manufactory and convince with an elegantly simple design mixed with the traces of handcraft noticeable on the hammered surface. The set includes the following items:
1 large jug, pewter, copper plated with hammered finish (H: 40cm)
1 jug with bulbous body, copper (H: 25cm)
1 pot with lid and ebony wood handles, pewter (H: 22 cm)
1 water jug, pewter with hammered finish (H: 23 cm)
Milk & sugar, tin (H: 7-11cm)
1 tray, pewter with hammered decoration (Ø: 24 cm)
The objects are each marked with makers mark ‘r Meersburg’ and partly numbered. They are all in good condition with slight signs of age and wear. Tray and sugar bowl slightly dented, the patina occasionally slightly rubbed. Otherwise overall of good impression.
