Art Deco étagère with frame made of curved rectangular bars and four shelves with wooden trimmed screws in characteristic design; a similar serving table by Andre Groult fetched up to €13,000 at international auctions

André Groult is better known for his organically shaped furniture and the exquisite materials such as stingray leather. As many designers in the Art Deco period he stands on the threshold between tradition and modernism. The serving table presented here with its constructivist design rather points towards the future. The fram of curved rectangular bars are perceptive of Marcel Breuer's tubular steel. A special feature are the cylindrical wooden screws that not only connect the single parts but also serve as decoration.



The serving table is 89 cm tall and measures 79 x 31 cm. It is in very good condition with some signs of age and wear.



André Groult (1884-1966)

André Groult was born in 1884. In 1925 he designed a fabulous bedchamber in pink-gray color palette within the exhibition ‘Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes’. His furniture is characterized by organic, curved forms and stand on the threshold between tradition and modernism. (afa)
