Description
John Rogers (1829-1904). This classic American sculptor is known for his plaster images of early American life, as well as the 80 casting of the American Civil War. He did only three bronze casting is his lifetime, which include Pickett's Charge, Abraham Lincoln, and this Wounded to the Rear: One More Shot. This sculpture depicts two courageous wounded veterans, one lingering to have one more shot at the enemy before retreating to the hospital for help with their wounds. Statuary of this stirring subject were often gifts to veterans who admired the subject and impressive manner of presentation. General George Custer carried One More Shot with him after the Civil War from one army base to another, along with other Rogers statuary. Weighing 75 pounds, this piece is still in very good condition and signed "Rogers New York" on the obverse. Condition (Very Good).CORRECTION: Attributed to John Rogers (1829-1904).
