Description
An Egyptian brecciated jasper and hematite mace head, late Pre-Dynastic - early Dynastic Period, c. 3000 - 2500 BC, in shades of black, white and maroon stone, D: 1 3/5 in (4.1cm). Some minor chipping and nicks. Because of the fragile nature of the stone, breccia mace heads were thought to be ceremonial and not for use in warfare. The rarity of the stone would also indicate that it belonged to a person of the royal bloodline. Ex Denton Estate.
