Description:
Bell &; Co., Manufacturing Chemists. Printed Letter to Doctors. NY, Dec. 1, 1903. 1pg.
"The Codeine used in our preparations ia s chemically pure product refined by ourselves. It will remove the sensation of irritation in the respiratory tract as surely and more quickly than morphia, and much more surely than the Codeine on the market or the newer Synthetical products. It does not check expectoration or produce depression or constipation. We will prove to any physician who will try either our Syrup of Codeine or table Sal-Codeia that our Codeine is superior in its indications to morphia or any of its derivatives. All we ask is a fair comparative trial of the genuine Bell preparations with other remedies at your command..." By the end of the 19th century, isolation of active components of the Opium Poppy allowed for production of safer narcotic drugs, with Codeine quickly becoming the most common component of "stronger" cough medicines and pain killers.
