Autograph Letter Signed by Mata Hari The Famous German Spy of World War I and Extremely Rare
MATA HARI (1876-1917). Convicted and Executed by the French for being a German Spy during World War I.
December 24, [no year]-dated, Autograph Letter Signed, “Mata Hari,” upon Letterhead from the Grand Hotel, Paris, 2 pages, back to back, measuring 8.5” x 10.5” written in French, Choice Fine. This Letter is boldly Handwritten by Mata Hari in rich brown upon light blue lined wove period paper, bearing the official vignette and letterhead of the historic Grand Hotel - Paris. There is a slight fold edge split and wear from handling at the lower right corner.
One can only imagine the circumstances and intregue surrounding the writing of this Letter and passions of the Christmas holiday being so timely. Margaretha Geertruida "Margreet" Zelle MacLeod (1876 – 15 October 1917), is better known by the stage name “Mata Hari,” was a Frisian exotic dancer and courtesan who was convicted of being a spy and executed by firing squad in France under charges of espionage for Germany during World War I. This Letter concludes with a massive 4.5” long flowing and underlined signature “Mata Hari.”
