March 3, 1778-Dated (Valley Forge) Revolutionary War, Autograph Letter Signed, "Rob. H. Harrison", Silked, Fine. The reverse side Address Panel made to George Washington’s Quartermaster General, "Col. Clement Biddle," 1 page, measuring 8.25” x 10.25”. The laid period paper is watermarked with a Crowned cartouche, showing the familiar seated figure of Britannia (British paper). There is a portion of the original red wax seal intact, with repaired tears where this Letter was openned, Silked upon both sides for preservation. Also, a few small scattered ink drops, yet overall very clean, well written having a large “March 3, 1778” written date and huge 3.25” long signature "Rob. H. Harrison". This Letter reads, in full:

"D Sir ---- His Excellency requests that you will transport the inclosed immediately thro the Channel of the Stationary Enprosses (sic) He would have sent it to Colo. Littontoh (sic) but apprehended he might not be acquainted with them." (This message is criptic, thus possibly written in a code, in case of capture by the British). Docket reads: “Col. Harrison - 3 March 1778”.

Lt. Colonel Robert H. Harrison was a Maryland Jurist who was serving as one of George Washington's Aide-de-Camps at Valley Forge Winter Headquarters. He declined a presidential appointment to the newly formed Supreme Court in 1789, due to his ill health and he died the following year.
