Early Wooden Canteen with Stamped Initials of Owner
c. 1820, Early American Wooden Militia Style Canteen with Painted “M.S." with Stamped Signature, “N R," Very Fine.
Round wooden canteen, with leather carrying strips, no date or place, plug absent. This early, historic canteen measures 7.25" in diameter and is 2.75" thick with 100% of its original black paint. It bears a reddish lettering, “M.S." (Masschusetts State?) onthe front. Initialed “signature" is stamped “N.R." on the back. One of the leather carrying strips is torn, but the others are complete. The original paint is in excellent, natural condition.
