**First Time At Auction**
Africa, Ethiopia, ca. early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden headrest used by its owner to preserve his/her coiffure while asleep. Carved from a single piece of wood, the piece presents a hemispheric platform from which a flat pedestal with curved edges rises to support an ovoid platform. This resting area is quite smooth and possesses a lustrous patina. The pedestal is tastefully decorated with a fretted border on both sides, and a metal wire handle (showing nice signs of age) was attached through a pair of perforations. Size: 6.25" W x 6.5" H (15.9 cm x 16.5 cm)
