This magnificent porcelain tray in the Old Viennese style was produced ??in the 19th century by the Count Thun's Porcelain Factory. It has an octagonal shape with a raised edge, which is decorated with golden leaves and gold edges on a pink colored background. The tray is particularly striking for the central polychrome painting, which represents the Finding of Moses, probably depicted after a model by Angelika Kauffmann. The bold colors are still exceptionally good and fresh. The medallion is surrounded by a bead molding in bas-relief, as well as by a wide margin with a red background, adorned with a golden floral decoration and a stylized landscape with herons.

The tablet is marked with the imitated black blue shield (beehive-brand) of the ‘Alt-Wien’ porcelain factory and the impressed marks ‘TK’, ‘160’, ‘I’ and ‘70’. It is overall in very good condition with slight wear of the golden decor, small chips and a fine crack to the outer edge. The dimensions are 29 x 38 x 3 cm.

Count Thun's Porcelain Factory

The Count Thun's porcelain factory is one of the oldest porcelain factories in Bohemia. The first porcelain piece with the inscription ‘Vivat Bohemia’ was produced in 1793. From 1797, Christian Nonne was in charge of the factory, who realized sales of the products abroad. After the death of Christian Nonne, Josef Graf von Thun took over the factory. In 1848, Karl Venier was hired as a director. During the Second World War, the company produced 90% of export products. In 1945, the company had 10 circular kilns in operation. In 1945, the Czechs seized the manufactory, and almost all workers were expelled.
