WOOD EVELYN: (1838-1919) British Field Marshal, Victoria Cross winner for his actions during the Indian Mutiny, 19th October 1858. A.L.S., Evelyn Wood, one page, 8vo, London, 5th May n.y., to Mrs. Chamberlain, on the blind embossed stationery of the War Office. Wood writes concerning Sir Charles Coldstream and an answer he had received, 'There's nothing in it'. Together with a second A.L.S., Evelyn Wood, two pages, small 8vo, Devonshire Place, 9th July n.y., also to Mrs. Chamberlain, informing her that Ella will write and confirming an appointment, 'I think it is important you should meet him. I think my chances are worse & unless public opinion helps me I shall be defeated'. VG, 2
