The present stone head of a Roman emperor or aristocrat dates back to the Roman Empire to around 200 to 300 AD. The head is three-dimensionally sculpted and shows fine details in the curly hair of the head and the beard. The male head bust has got finely elaborated facial features with distinctive chin and full lips. The large eyes are placed under wide eyebrows. The face refers to a middle-aged man. The stone is a stone that you can find in South France and is typically a stone used by the Gallo romans.
The head is worked in one piece and in age-according good overall condition. The surfaces, especially the nose, show abrasion. The head measures 31 x 20 cm. The total height, including the stand, is 33 cm. (tm)
