This artistic finely crafted ivory tankard embodies detailed ornamentation paired with fine materials and beautiful ivory carvings. The valuable and at the same time fascinating tankard shows on his ivory walls biblical scenes of the Fall of Adam and Eve as well as their son Cain murdering his brother Abel. This artistic ivory carving is combined beautifully with the gilded, decorated silver vessel as the inner wall, lid, base and handle. Especially nice is the kneeling Atlas, enthroning on the lid of the stein and carrying the globe on his shoulder. The thumb lifter is modelled in the shape of a shell with an elephant's head on the reverse side. As a thumb rest is an angel with wings attached. A magnificent piece of art!

The tankard is in good condition with minimal signs of age and wear. In the ivory is a long vertical seasoning check. Underneath it shows four marks, such as an eagle and a lion’s head as well as assayer’s marks. The height of the mug is approx. 23 cm. (tm)
