This pair of paintings created the Irish-American artist Amanda Watt in 1988 in acrylic. ‘The Robe’ depicts a female nude of a redheaded lady, who is wearing nothing but a brown coat. ‘East meets west’ shows a couple during the act of sexual intercourse. A recurring feature of Watt’s art is visible: the painting of both images continues onto the frames. A further hallmark of Watt becomes evident, the use of lively and radiant colours, making the images vibrate and providing the paintings with especially strong expressiveness.



The painting ‘The Robe’ is signed and dated on the lower right ‘Amanada Watt 88’. ‘East meets West’ is signed in the centre on the right ‘Amanda Watt’. Both works bear an annotation on the verso of the frames. Both works are in good condition with minor traces of wear on frame and painting. The sheet of ‘East meets West’ is slightly askew inside the frame. The total dimensions, including the frame, are 148.5 x 133 cm (‘The Robe’), and 123 x 154 cm (‘East meets West’). (tm)
