In Greek Archaic art, the Kouros was referred to a statue of a young man. He was one of the leitmotifs of Greek art, before the classic art was introduced in the 5th century BC with the ‘Severe Style’. The present Kouros was most likely a votive offering and is distinguished by a characteristic symmetry and frontality, by unmoved members and stereotypical facial features with a typical ‘archaic smile’.
The statuette is in very good condition with a beautiful patina of age. It stands on a circular plinth and measures 6.9 cm in height. The figure is mounted on a modern acrylic glass base. (cko)
