Among the ancients Egyptians, the scarab was regarded as a lucky charm with the meaning of ‘resurrection and life’. The present winged scarab pendant stands out due to its decorative accomplishment
The present pendant is shaped in the form of a winged scarab, which was equated in ancient Egypt with the sun god Re and Khepri, the appearance of Re as the morning sun. This identification was due to the brilliant and sometimes shimmering gold color of the animal’s elytra. According to ancient Egyptian understanding, the scarab helped to push the rising sun, like the beetle does with his dung ball. The beetle was also considered a lucky charm and a symbol of creative power, because it was assumed that he multiplied without procreation.
The pendant is in good condition considering its age, showing some losses to the lower part. The length is 4.5 cm. (cko)
