Fine and appealing allegory of Justice in good condition made by an 18th century South German carver, here in a rare accomplishment without blindfold and sword
This elegant wooden Justitia is the work of a South German carver active during the 18th century. The statuette seems to present the cleared original coloring. The antique style Justitia features an androgynous appearance and a rare accomplishment without blindfold and sword of judgment. In the right hand, the figure holds the characteristic scales. The left arm is supported by books as a symbol of wisdom and science. The figurine delights with the excellent carving, which is particularly evident in the flowing folds of the garment.
The figure is in good restored condition, showing some small losses and cracks in the wood. The back shows mounting holes. The overall height, including the base, is 30 cm. (cko)
